Finding Inner Peace

What I’ve come to know through the years of suffering from anxiety and worry is that I would rather have peace than be right…There is magic to be experienced when we let go of the struggle to be right and perfect. Can you remember the last time you felt inner peace? Who is bringing you into their struggle? What guilt are you carrying?....For years I longed to feel at peace with myself and my surroundings, throughout my adult life I seemed to have moved far away from the peace that I was seeking and into the depth of anxiety, with constant worry over money security and stress, with my inner and outer critics playing havoc with my mind. I was riddled with guilt and didn’t want the responsibility that I had accumulated in my job as well as to the need to live up to expectations of friends and family. I longed for freedom and escape and to start all over again…Feeling such disharmony lead me to take time out and to nourish from the inside I took up dancing, singing and Art and started to listen to my body, I found people whom were also on the same journey and found support in therapy and in just being and accepting where I was right now. Most importantly I paid attention to how I talked to myself   I let go of the nagging critical voice. I have learned over the years ways to get back to that feeling of inner peace and well-being and these are a few that I practice daily…

·         Let go of the guilt you are not responsible for everything
·         You are beautiful worthy and perfect.
·         Be grateful for what you have in this moment, we all have more than we think we have
·         Remove yourself from critical and judgmental people
·         Be very kind and nurturing to yourself spend time with people that lift your spirits
Do something creative….Mandalas are an expression of peace, harmony and wholeness and have been used as a  connection to our communities and to nature; the circle itself is a powerful symbol and is used in meditation to help make a deeper connection to ourselves to bring balance and harmony. The HE (ART) of Letting Go...

When we begin to realise our true dreams and desires the process of manifesting them can be a transforming period, one of letting go of the old and making space for the new.  Allowing yourself time to heal, clear and discover for yourself your true nature and let go of limiting beliefs and attitude, is a journey in itself of self-enquiry and expression, with those insightful moments thrown in!!  And one that will lead you closer to manifesting your dreams and desires as well as being the richest and beautiful gift you can give yourself.  Making this deeper connection to heart and soul with art and mandalas has been my journey and a beautiful connection to a higher source of energy for healing, a year after leaving my job, travelling, experiencing times of financial worry Art and meditation served as wonderful tool for releasing and making space for new projects and ideas.

As we are way into January 2014 the journey of letting go will always be on going, now with the second new moon of the month, this is a great time to find a quiet space and just meditate on letting go of that which is burdening heavy and not celebrating the power that you are!! Take a few minutes in the day to :-

Accepting who you are in this moment... draw a circle and fill with words shapes colours start with the phrase ‘where you are now’ work quickly to fill your space. Spend 10min and no more in this. Once completed spend a few minutes looking at the circle and send it love and light accepting who you are in this moment your dark and light side.

Gratitude Mandala: Draw another circle and write in this space all that you are thankful about. (As I have done this the list keeps on growing, so you may need a larger circle) you may want to thank the people in your life, your job, health, trees and so on it can be the small things as well as the big things. Once completed feel how much you already have in your life and the richness, with this feeling write a few positive affirmations, repeat them out aloud. This is very uplifting exercise and good to share with friends and family.

Dream Catcher: How to filter your dreams

It’s wonderful to see the growth of people embracing craft from sewing to jewellery making to up-cycling. I recently had a gift from a friend of a necklace in the shape of a dream- catcher bought from a stall at Northcote Road Market London. Like many I am fascinated and take inspiration from sacred symbols that have evolved with time. This is the year to find the power in sacred symbols and can be used as a tool to help you to discover different parts of yourself and inner wisdom.
The dream-catcher originates from a Native American Tribe called Ojibwe and is related to the myth of spider-women whose role it was to take care of children and help bring the sun back to the tribe The Ojibwe tribe migrated to the four corners of North America and so had a difficult time making her way to all her children. With the help of the women in the tribe they began weaving magical webs for new babies known as dream catchers made from willow and string made from plants and were hung above their cots. The dream-catcher is said to filter bad dreams and allow only good dreams to enter, in the morning when the sun’s rays hit the dream-catcher and as the light sparkles this is when the bad dreams evaporate.
To find inner wisdom and clarity, meditate on a Dream- catcher. Photocopy a dream-catcher mandala find a quiet place and colour in. As you relax and fill the mandala with colour ask your Higher guide (or spider-women)to let positive dreams enter your dream time. Ask for dreams that will show you guidance in your everyday life.

Mandala Art Meditation Why work with mandalas?

Mandalas comes from the ancient Sanskrit language meaning scared circle and have been used by a variety of cultures as a tool for making a deeper journey within.

There is something profound about creating in a circle, a window to your inner self the beauty of being in touch with body mind and emotions, allowing for growth and exploration. Many People use mandalas for meditation and contemplation and within healing and therapy. Carl Jung referred to a mandala as “the psychological expression of the totality of the self”. The mandala has come to represent a great source of reflection on one’s inner state of being as well as helping to reconnect with self and others.
Why not create your own state of awareness in the form of a sacred circle, this is a wonderful way to balance and align.  Find a quiet space sit quietly and breathe deeply to relax yourself.  Draw a small circle, use paints, pens coloured pencils and express, work quickly to bypass rational thoughts and do not worry about the neatness. The shapes colours symbols that you create in your mandala will reflect your inner state, expressing your feelings and emotions in that snapshot of time.
If you are looking to relieve stress and gain clarity and make a deeper connection come and join a workshop in Mandala healing art Meditation we have regular classes central London.
